However, I will say that the character in Diary of an Oxygen Thief contrasts at the end of the novel by not playing into his own embarrassment/shame as some of Dostoevsky’s characters often do. Their greatest fear is to be truly seen and/or humiliated in the public eye. They all share a distinct paranoia, delusion, sense of superiority and excessive concern for how other people perceive them. Many people found it underwhelming, to an extent I agree with them, this wasnt what I thought the book would be about.Īs far as the main character of this book, he kind of reminded of the characters/narrators from Dostoevsky’s Notes from the Underground and the Double.
